Welcome to Bullets #23! Sit back, relax, and dive into the latest edition of the series, you can also catch up on the previous edition bullets/22.

It’s July already! I’ll try to grasp what happened recently, because that’s what bullets were initially about - having a very simple framework to write down what’s going on in my life!

I’m more active on my bike this year than last year, big thanks to my little boys who are capable of doing 30km+ rides with no problem. I stopped considering going for a ride only if I can make more than 50km, it was a stupid assumption based on other activities that I’d like to do. Recommendation for everyone, especially myself -> just get out and ride! Have fun!

They are clearly enjoying it!

Bike highlight of the year so far was a family trip to the seaside - Swinoujscie. There were no crowds and all the cycling infrastructure was perfect. Kiddos didn’t complain and we hit our first 50km+ trip as a family!💪🏻

Writing is cool, but dictation seems to be much more efficient for many workflows. I’ve been using https://handy.computer/ for a while now, and it works great. I don’t use it for personal communication, but when I’m researching something or collaborating with agents - it’s a great tool, because even if I make a mistake, I usually am able to provide enough context for the agent to understand what I meant.

In January, I 3D printed a small drawer and went to my workshop in order to mount it. It’s been 6 months since then and I still haven’t mounted it. Instead I remodelled the entire place, got rid of all the existing shelves and pseudo tables and replaced it with a gazillion new things which literally took me months to build. One more time, I’m guilty of overengineering and overcomplicating things. It’s a very similar story to the one I wrote in my linklog post.

I’ve met with my classmates from high school after 20 years. It was an amazing experience, for these few hours I felt like I am a teenager again. No problems, no stress, just a bunch of people who are happy to see each other. Best part of the meeting was that we were able to resume conversations from 20 years ago, and it was like we never stopped talking. So many good memories!!! Oh, and I realized that I was one of the few people at that time who brought a camera to school and still have some photos from these crazy times.

Classmates from IIIA after 20 years

I’ve gained some weight recently, but look at this picture - this is what ends up on our plates in Spring and Summer. It’s so hard to resist1!

Luv it!

This year I also started an adventure with a homelab and ended up with a small cluster of 2 HP G5s and a RPi. Thanks to Claude, I was able to set everything up quite quickly and without bigger issues, as I pretty much knew what I wanted to do, but I saved a lot of time thanks to agents help. In a nutshell: pihole, dockhand, jellyfin, homeassistant, uptime kuma, VPN, proxmox, linkding, freshrss and a few more things. Most of the things are managed via a repo with tiny wrappers + ansible. Thanks to this setup, I can run something like make apply and it will update some services or install new ones. Pretty cool!

It’s World Cup time! Normally I’d keep my fingers crossed for Poland and Italy, but none of them qualified for the World Cup this time 🙄. Due to timezone differences, I’m not able to watch a lot of games live. Now I can feel how the rest of the world feels when there are some big events in Europe :/

Enough of human content for now, I really enjoyed writing this and missed it a bit! Have a great summer and see you in the next edition of Bullets!

  1. There’s one person though, who’s resisting to accept my invitation for a BBQ for more than 10 years already! ↩︎
